What’s uric acid?

Uric acid is a metabolic waste product. It has value in telling you two things:

1) What is your gout risk? Higher uric acid = higher gout risk

2) How much sugar are you consuming? Higher uric acid suggests higher fructose consumption

A good goal for uric acid levels is to be less than 5.5 mg/dL

For elevated uric acid levels, try:

- Reducing sugar intake through reducing sugar-sweetened beverages, cookies, breads, and even fruit.

- Reducing purine intake -see the link here for foods that have varied levels of purines
